Elizabeth Champagne

Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
I am in the “people business.” That is, I manage people and systems in order to effectively compete in the valuation and advisory marketplace. C&W has provided me the platform to be the Market Leader in the Northwest, and to strategically outperform our competitors. What is so unique about this company is that it provides the tools, technology and support to enable me to be my best. Many large commercial real estate companies that have grown quickly have become bureaucratic and have lost their “heart and soul.” The cultural shift has created systems that support the machinery rather than the employees. C&W has retained its cultural values in spite of its rapid growth, where they value the human resources as a means to achieve their goals rather than to focus entirely on the outcome and corporate profits. This is an intrinsically different belief than that of our competitors, and one that is its major attraction for me.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
First and foremost, I am proud to be the mother of 2 amazing sons who have taught me some of life’s greatest lessons.

Second, I am proud of my accomplishments as a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field. I worked hard throughout my career, and had to be better and brighter than my male counterparts in order to succeed.  I learned to persevere and to be extremely self-reliant. I embraced the concept of “fake it til you make it,” and to develop my technical skills and capabilities in order to be taken seriously. I accomplished a leadership role early on in my career when, at the time, I didn’t feel I deserved it; but, thankfully, others believed in me. I actually wanted to be prematurely grey, to give me an older and wiser appearance, but now, I’m not so happy about that! Along the same lines, I have continuously been drawn to provide mentorship to other women over the years whose struggles to get ahead deeply resonate with my own experiences.

Lastly, I am extremely happy about the deep client relationships I have developed over the years. I have prided myself in their loyalty to me as they have put their personal trust in my ability to deliver the best possible outcomes and solutions for their needs.

With human capital being the #1 line item on a company’s financial statements, today it’s all about attraction and retention of talent. The workplace has never been more important; therefore, there is a lot more pressure on our clients to deliver. In return, they are looking for service providers to be their strategic partners, providing a full suite of services.
