I chose C&W for the professional and dynamic work environment. During my due diligence process in speaking to a number of C&W customers/employees through my network contacts, I always received the same response: C&W is a first class organization driven to perform at the highest level, and that’s an environment I want to grow and develop in. With the breadth of services we have now, how are you able to do more today for your clients?
The knowledge and professionalism that comes from each of our service lines has helped me serve my clients through a superior understanding of market trends.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
I am most proud of obtaining the MAI designation. In addition, since obtaining the designation, I am proud that I have been able to continually produce more each year.

Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
I work at Cushman & Wakefield because of the lasting relationships I am able to develop internally with co-workers and externally with other businesses throughout the city. I have an amazing boss and a great, supportive team that challenges me and keeps me laughing at the same time.
C&W has one of the most interesting growth stories in our industry. How has our recent momentum made an impact on your role or created opportunities for you?
Throughout my first year as Project Coordinator, I worked to support our two-person team (led by the fearless Lauren Talley) as best as I could. I’d volunteer to stand in at meetings, make progress checks and independently manage all administrative duties for our STL department. Because I came to our team with little knowledge about construction, I was forced to learn quickly. I asked A LOT of questions. I wanted to know the guts of our operation, start to finish.

Before I knew it, I was managing small projects, received my first promotion, and am now finishing out my third year by collaboratively managing a 63,000+ RSF build-out and self-managing my largest TI projects to date. (Maxing out at approx. $700,000 in construction costs for nearly 20k RSF of office space.)

In my three years of working for STL PDS, we have grown our annual revenue over six times what it was when I started in 2014, and have quadrupled our two-person team! Very exciting!

What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
I’m most proud of being a mother. That is my first job.

Jennifer Miles

C&W has one of the most interesting growth stories in our industry. How has our recent momentum made an impact on your role or created opportunities for you?
Our growth is being driven by our clients demanding a real estate partner who can bring something different beyond the status quo to the table. Our Account teams are being challenged to bring innovation to the table; that’s where my team and I come in. In my role, I get an opportunity to work with a variety accounts in all geographic regions and industries. I’m able to identify innovation and best practices that can be employed to exceed client expectations.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
My greatest achievement here and in my personal life is when I prove skeptics wrong. Many times when I begin working with an account, there are a lot of people that don’t believe that we can make a change on both the C&W and client team. I am able to use analytics and past experience to very quickly identify opportunities. I am also very patient and an optimist. I often ask that I am given an opportunity to show that we can make a difference; I then go to work. It is so rewarding to see the client and our team come full circle and become a believer.

Terri Melzer

With the world constantly changing, how has your job, or client’s job changed over the past 10 years?
I think with the war on talent, all of us have had to change how we look at our space. What is the space being used for? How do we make it better for the employee? The experience has become as important as the culture, salary and time off benefits.
With the breadth of services we have now, how are you able to do more today for your clients?
We truly can provide an end-to-end solution and everything in between. With the strong platform and the talent, we can continue to offer services that will positively impact the customer’s employee experience, which in turn will make them more productive and the customer more profitable.

Adam McCostlin

With the world constantly changing, how has your job, or client’s job changed over the past 10 years?
Required access to data is by far and away the biggest change I’ve seen, along with the way companies occupy and plan their office space. The Great Recession was an inflection point for this country relative to how companies occupy, plan and execute their real estate decision making and strategy. Since the Great Recession, companies have reduced foot prints, increased access to technology for their employees (to enable working from anywhere), incorporated collaborative team environments in their offices and all of this is driven by cost cutting initiatives, technology advances and data analysis.

Companies have gotten smarter relative to how they occupy space and there is less emphasis on the individual and more emphasis on the collective whole. You’ve seen this play out across all industry types. Because of this, I have adapted the way I execute the consultation component of my job with my clients from a planning perspective leading into a project. However, we do this without abandoning the fundamentals of real estate negotiations in the execution. It’s been fun.

Tell us a little about your story. How did you come to C&W? What do you do?
Since I was a little kid, I’ve always been obsessed with skylines and maps. I’m not sure why. That drove my passion for real estate while I was a student at Marquette University, which had a newly founded real estate major during my tenure. My career started at Equis, which has evolved to today’s Cushman & Wakefield after many acquisitions and mergers. I’ve had many different brands on my business card, but I’ve worked for the same organization my entire career. Adaptation to change has become second nature, which enables me to relate to my clients as changes are constantly occurring in business.
With the breadth of services we have now, how are you able to do more today for your clients?
Clients require us to be partners and advisors in respect to industry changes and occupancy trends, both now and into the future. The ability for C&W to support those requirements is better than it has ever been, in many capacities. We have the data to support, the culture to make it fun, the expertise to deliver the best results, and the reach to do it anywhere in the world.

Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
I really enjoy working with the people on my team. We have different backgrounds and personalities, but our cohesiveness fosters a friendly team environment. I can’t imagine that I’d have such a positive experience working somewhere else.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
Getting accepted to and graduating from Columbia Business School. I was living in Michigan at the time — wanting badly to move back to New York City — and my dad challenged me to get into Columbia. Many people thought that I was too young and didn’t have enough experience to get accepted, so I was glad to prove them wrong. The degree is something that will help me, both professionally and personally, for years to come.

I appreciate the entrepreneurial and collegial atmosphere at Cushman & Wakefield. The firm makes a full array of resources available to ensure that clients receive the best service in the industry.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
Having the opportunity to work on the enormously successful Manhattan West leasing team, where we have leased almost 2,000,000 rsf of office space with another 1,000,000 rsf of leases out, has been one of the highlights of working at Cushman & Wakefield for me.

I started my career working for a real estate owner and developer. Learning how to manage properties from the owners’ side of business was of immeasurable worth because it taught me the importance of the client’s perspective. It also showed me the true value of what we, as property management professionals, can achieve when we manage properties as if they were our own.  Cushman & Wakefield has a platform that breeds that level of service and excellence. The support and guidance from our leadership team is tremendous. Individual efforts and accomplishments get recognized and rewarded. It is an honor to work in such a collegial setting.
With the breadth of services we have now, how are you able to do more today for your clients?
One of the crucial strengths that we, as a company have and what has given us an edge over our competitors over the years, is our ability to customize our services based on our clients. The set in stone operational platforms that our competitors run, while impressive, do not always prove to be a value-add dynamic for clients who have unique needs and plans for their assets. With the growth of our company, we now have an opportunity to enhance our operating platform and further develop our own standers of excellence. Combining this with the already proven ability to customize our services will give us an unmatched versatility, and ensure our dominance and leadership in the market.

After spending 27 years at a competitor, I was thrilled to join Cushman & Wakefield. At my former employer, we were always coming in second to C&W, so it was both a privilege and honor to join and be a part of the winning team.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
I am proud and excited to be in a position to support and advocate for our Asset Services teams while meeting our clients objectives. My 30+ years of hands-on management experience will greatly influence how I lead and support our teams.
