Lyla Gambow

Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
I came to C&W because of the people and the culture.  It was very important to me to work with people that have the intellect, abilities and the dedication to my core values of honesty, integrity and hard work.
With the breadth of services we have now, how are you able to do more today for your clients?
It is very easy to sell C&W to existing clients, potential new team members, and new clients because of the services that we provide. A client tells us what they need, and we have the ability to provide them those resources; many other firms say they have them, but C&W really does and delivers. From project management to construction management to a high level of engineering resources, these services allow us to excel in the Asset Services division.

With the world constantly changing, how has your job, or client’s job changed over the past 10 years?
When I started in 2000, we had a hard file system for building information. Now, we can find property information from online databases and view a site using Google without ever going to see the actual building.  This saves time to actually interact with clients, as we can create background materials very quickly.

More face time = better relationships.

What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
“A lifetime of knocking on doors.” I have been a salesperson since I was 8 years old, selling chocolate bars for school fundraisers. C&W has been a fantastic place to build a career and improve my skills. After my first year in the business, I was named BOMA’s Broker of the Year.

To be honest, though, I am most proud to have become a Dad this past year. My iPhone is constantly full with so many pictures!

Tell us a little about your story. How did you come to C&W? What do you do?
I came to the firm in October 2010, which was a time of tremendous growth for Asset Services in the Washington, D.C. market. Bill Grillo and Ben Comm had teamed up the previous year to lead the group, and were enjoying enormous success. With this growth, they identified an opportunity to create a differentiator from their competition by hiring a local, dedicated transition manager to oversee the transition of the new business into the portfolio. My priority is to instill confidence in the client’s mind that they have made the right choice in appointing Cushman & Wakefield as their Property Management provider. We put emphasis on our experience, and our action-oriented transition process. Most importantly, we deliver results.
With the breadth of services we have now, how are you able to do more today for your clients?
Here’s a great example: We have a client who has owned their asset for over 25 years, and we have been managing it for them for less than 2 of those years.  They have used the robust cash flow to fund their mission for all these years, and have not put much money back into the property to properly maintain it and keep it competitive in the marketplace. Our client is now at the point where most of the building systems need to be replaced, the common areas need an overhaul, and oh, their two largest tenants are moving out within the next two years to brand new, more efficient buildings.

So, what now? Our client turned to Cushman & Wakefield to offer solutions; they ultimately decided to seek an equity partner to fund the capital needs while the building is repositioned. Valuations, Capital Markets, Agency Leasing, Project Management and Asset Services will all come into play to help our client in meeting their key business objectives.

With the world constantly changing, how has your job, or client’s job changed over the past 10 years?
As a real estate services provider, Cushman & Wakefield’s role, responsibilities and expectations have heightened tenfold. Each client’s business requires real estate decisions to drive financial results and support the organization’s response to industry competition.

The difference between now and 10 years ago is the extreme attention to accountability.

C&W has one of the most interesting growth stories in our industry. How has our recent momentum made an impact on your role or created opportunities for you?
Our recent momentum has definitely shaken things up. Our merger was actually a fantastic opportunity as I know many of the people on both sides (having worked at Cassidy Turley for years). At both the national and local levels, the merger added team members along with a wealth of knowledge that has absolutely benefited both internal and external clients. We still have some growing pains, but we also have created the ability to continue building a world-class research team.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
Honestly, the fact that I was able to take a risk in moving to NYC from Atlanta when I didn’t have a job lined up. I managed to find myself, within just a couple of months, at a company with a lot of fantastic people. I’m also proud of taking another chance moving across the country to come back to C&W without thoroughly knowing this market, though I’m working with my team to learn as much as I can. C&W feels like home.

Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
For me, it is the people/culture and the opportunities to grow my career. I’m fortunate to truly enjoy the people I work with every day. We have a great culture in our office where we are challenged every day while being supported by peers and leadership. Over the past 11 years, I’ve been able to continue growing professionally; the growth of the company will only provide more of those opportunities.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
About a year ago, I became the President of Voices for Children’s Board of Directors. I had only been on the Board for about a year. I had also never ran a board prior to this, so I was certainly hesitant to accept the nomination. However, I’m so thankful I didn’t let fear get in my way, and that I took on the challenge. It has been an incredible learning experience, but most importantly, I get to be part of an organization who, through their volunteers, helps abused and neglected children.

Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
Cushman & Wakefield has been wonderful to me, and has provided me with incredible opportunities and experiences. C&W has a culture of rewarding those who want to grow their career. I was proactive, and started getting involved with initiatives, forming relationships in the firm and learning as much as I could. As a result, the company has rewarded me with advancement and recognition. All in all, C&W has a supportive culture that encourages folks to take a chance and step up to new opportunities.
C&W has one of the most interesting growth stories in our industry. How has our recent momentum made an impact on your role or created opportunities for you?
For me, the last 2 years at C&W have been nothing like the previous 15 years. It’s a wild rollercoaster every day; you’ve got to get in and buckle up. It’s been a fun and exciting ride for me each and every day. The explosive growth over the last few years has provided a lot of development opportunities for myself and many others here in Florida. I love it!

With the world constantly changing, how has your job, or client’s job changed over the past 10 years?
I actually began my career in commercial real estate 10 years ago, and since then, I would say that technology has been the biggest game changer in both our industry and in general business. The introduction of new platforms have allowed us to be more effective and efficient. In marketing, there has been an evolution in the way we engage with our clients and push out communications. In support of our staple collateral, we are able to mix it up with the use of property microsites, interactive reports and presentations, and social media.

Social media alone has had a strong impact on our industry. It has changed the way we communicate, gather and share information. We have been able to engage clients and build relationships through multiple channels—broadening our communication network.

C&W has one of the most interesting growth stories in our industry. How has our recent momentum made an impact on your role or created opportunities for you?
Since the re-brand to C&W, I would say that we have had nonstop opportunities for business development and collaboration nationwide. I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to get to know my counterparts in other markets. We have some great talent in marketing, and it has been a pleasure collaborating with my expanded team.
With the breadth of services we have now, how are you able to do more today for your clients?
I think the biggest expansion of services has been the cross-collaboration of markets. We have been able to leverage our expanded platform and national team to pitch and win some significant business in KC. It’s been a very exciting two years.

Marc Renard

Tell us a little about your story. How did you come to C&W? What do you do?
I started my career at C&W when I was 16 in the mail room. 34 years later, C&W is the only firm I have ever been employed by and probably will be the only firm I am ever employed by. From the mail room, I became a “runner” for an industrial broker in Oakland, then a “runner” for an office leasing broker in San Francisco. When I was in college, I was a “runner” for an office leasing broker in downtown Los Angeles. In 1989, I joined the Capital Markets Group, and in 2016, I was appointed Executive Vice Chairman. From mailroom to EVC, anything is possible at C&W!
Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
The people! The people at C&W are the most entrepreneurial, dedicated and passionate individuals in the real estate services industry. Since C&W was acquired by TPG, the collaborative spirit and technological advancement in our system has only made our platform that much more compelling.  I have never been more excited about the direction of our firm and our executive leadership than I am today.
With the breadth of services we have now, how are you able to do more today for your clients?
There is no question that the increased connectivity of our numerous service lines is creating exciting opportunities for all of us to better service our clients. Investor Services is doing an excellent job in improving our interactions with major clients across various service lines so that we can present the C&W platform in a more unified fashion.

Kristine Reinhardt

With the world constantly changing, how has your job, or client’s job changed over the past 10 years?
I would compare the changes in my job over the past 10 years to be very similar to the skyline of downtown Denver: the growth is unbelievable. There has been no ceiling within Cushman & Wakefield to expand my knowledge and achieve the goals I set. C&W continues to be on the cutting edge of change, and has provided me with tools to make my time more efficient and create new ways to help make us #1.
Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
When I started at C&W, I thought I knew what I wanted to do. However, as I grew and learned more about Commercial Real Estate, it wasn’t long until I realized I loved brokerage. I loved solving problems, helping people out, and supporting the growth of others and  our firm. However, what keeps me at the firm are two important things: the people and C&W’s commitment to employees. C&W does not just hire anyone; they hire good people who have a vision. I think it is really hard to walk through any of our offices and find a group of “negative” people who do nothing but complain. The people I work with throughout C&W are great and have become lifelong friends.

C&W invests in us, the employees. We have great office space designed with all the workplace strategy ideas that we promote to our clients. The firm invests and encourages employees to live a healthy lifestyle. The leadership makes me feel important and valued.

What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
To work with one company for so many years makes me really proud. I love my job so much, and believe in all we have built and continue to build. I love bringing in new talent in hopes they will feel the same energy and passion I have for our business. Over the many years with the firm, I have learned the value of setting goals and making them happen.

One goal I set 3 years ago, I accomplished in 2016. I spent a year raising money and promoting the Ironman Foundation, and racing for individuals who could not take on the challenge. I was the top fundraiser for Ironman in the Americas for 2016, and was given an invite to race at the World Championships in Kona on October 14, 2017. I am still in shock that I will be out with the world’s best triathletes. For every mile I race, I am doing so to make a difference in someone’s life, someone less fortunate or unable to compete. Mostly though, I race to show everyone that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
