With the world constantly changing, how has your job, or client’s job changed over the past 10 years?
Having to manage a large volume of documents (contracts, leases, invoices, financial reports, etc.), one of the most impactful changes that has occurred on the Asset Service side is the use of cloud-based document storage and web-based accounting software. The use of cloud-based document storage allows instant access to virtually any documents from any location with an internet connection.

Pairing cloud storage with web-based accounting software allows for seamless integration between systems, speed up processing and approval times, while significantly reducing the need to file and store hard copy files. These two changes in technology allow for Owners, Asset Managers, Property Managers and Brokers to work more collaboratively, and have the necessary information on hand to make the best, and most informed, decision for their asset.

C&W has one of the most interesting growth stories in our industry. How has our recent momentum made an impact on your role or created opportunities for you?
I feel as though this question was written with me in mind. The past four years of my career development and the evolution of the new Cushman & Wakefield have run in parallel. Each merger and acquisition opened new opportunities and provided exposure to new experiences in its path. From starting my Cushman & Wakefield career with Cassidy Turley’s Washington, DC office; to moving to Boston, MA during the Cassidy Turley/DTZ merger; to integrating with the Legacy Cushman & Wakefield Asset Services team, following the DTZ/Cushman & Wakefield merger; to having the role I do now. All of these changes and advancements were direct results of the opportunities created from evolution of the new Cushman & Wakefield.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
While working at Cushman & Wakefield, there are quite a few achievements I am proud of being a part of, but the one that sticks out the most involves one of our non-profit clients in Washington, D.C. While partnering with the Debt and Equity team, our Property Management team was able to guide the client through a very complicated debt restructuring that addressed their short-term cash needs and consolidated their past debts into one simple and consistent loan payment going forward. Personally, I would have to say what I am most proud of are my kids. Although they are young, (5 & 3) watching them experience the world around them and seeing them draw so much happiness from seemingly small things, really puts life (and work) into perspective.

C&W has one of the most interesting growth stories in our industry. How has our recent momentum made an impact on your role or created opportunities for you?
Having been involved — in a roundabout way — with the growth story of C&W, it has been very interesting and has resulted in a much better platform for my capital markets focus. This has led to considerably more opportunities as I connect with members of C&W from around the country and world. As a member of the Board for 12 years as CTMT morphed into Cassidy Turley and then DTZ, it has been a great learning experience. It’s also been wonderful to be involved in something that has turned out to be such a great C&W organization.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
From a professional standpoint, I’m most proud of being a part of the Board that made the decision at CTMT to move on and start a new company (Cassidy Turley), with the intent that this would be the first step in an adventure that we did not know how it would end. Our goal was to be a part of an international company — and it came to fruition!
I’m also proud to have had the opportunity to work with and get to know so many people from all over the country. I remain friends with so many people from my entire career, long after I have left CTMT, CBRE and Cassidy Turley. They respect me for what I have accomplished in my chosen field, but more importantly, are my friends.

Personally, I’m very proud to have had the privilege to raise 6 kids, participate in most of their activities as they grew up, be happily married for 32 years, and dedicate time to continuously be successful in this industry.

With the world constantly changing, how has your job, or client’s job changed over the past 10 years?
Technology has allowed us to automate and streamline many processes. The installation of Workday has allowed the company to house all of the employee’s information in one area (Talent, Compensation, Benefits, etc). We will eventually move toward a process where managers can conduct most transactions on their own via Workday and rely on HR as a strategic business partner.
Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
I work at C&W because of my team and my client group. The HR team is very supportive of each other’s success, and we are always able to bounce ideas off of each other. The Tri-State Asset Services team has also been very supportive of my partnership with them on various transactions, and I enjoy the community service projects that we do! Giving back to the community is very important to this team!

Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
I am here at Cushman & Wakefield because this is a firm that is going places. It has successfully completed several mergers, and has grown in size and market share, hired top talent, and has great management. Having people who run our office that I consider not only colleagues, but friends, and whom I admire, is a tremendous plus.
C&W has one of the most interesting growth stories in our industry. How has our recent momentum made an impact on your role or created opportunities for you?
For the first 25 years, I was at a competitor of C&W, and established my own relationships with many building owners. I knew over the years, every time I was hired, or not chosen for an assignment, a small cadre of competitors were the competition. Now, I find myself working alongside those former foes, and together our strong relationships with the clients have insured our continuous business. And, our clients enjoy having their favorite brokers all working together on their assignments.

Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
I chose C&W for the professional and dynamic work environment. During my due diligence process in speaking to a number of C&W customers/employees through my network contacts, I always received the same response: C&W is a first class organization driven to perform at the highest level, and that’s an environment I want to grow and develop in. A lot of exciting things are happening, and I am looking forward to being a part of it!
C&W has one of the most interesting growth stories in our industry. How has our recent momentum made an impact on your role or created opportunities for you?
With the growth in our industry, it has made a huge impact on the teams that I support as we are creating roles and requisitions to help support the specific needs of the market.

Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
C&W is the premier appraisal firm in the U.S. When you work for the best, there is no compelling reason to leave. Furthermore, the best in class attracts the best team members, which is evident by the extraordinary quality of my coworkers.
With the breadth of services we have now, how are you able to do more today for your clients?
The knowledge and professionalism that comes from each of our service lines has helped me serve my clients through a superior understanding of market trends.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
I am most proud of obtaining the MAI designation. In addition, since obtaining the designation, I am proud that I have been able to continually produce more each year.

Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
I work at Cushman & Wakefield because of the lasting relationships I am able to develop internally with co-workers and externally with other businesses throughout the city. I have an amazing boss and a great, supportive team that challenges me and keeps me laughing at the same time.
C&W has one of the most interesting growth stories in our industry. How has our recent momentum made an impact on your role or created opportunities for you?
Throughout my first year as Project Coordinator, I worked to support our two-person team (led by the fearless Lauren Talley) as best as I could. I’d volunteer to stand in at meetings, make progress checks and independently manage all administrative duties for our STL department. Because I came to our team with little knowledge about construction, I was forced to learn quickly. I asked A LOT of questions. I wanted to know the guts of our operation, start to finish.

Before I knew it, I was managing small projects, received my first promotion, and am now finishing out my third year by collaboratively managing a 63,000+ RSF build-out and self-managing my largest TI projects to date. (Maxing out at approx. $700,000 in construction costs for nearly 20k RSF of office space.)

In my three years of working for STL PDS, we have grown our annual revenue over six times what it was when I started in 2014, and have quadrupled our two-person team! Very exciting!

What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
I’m most proud of being a mother. That is my first job.

Jennifer Miles

C&W has one of the most interesting growth stories in our industry. How has our recent momentum made an impact on your role or created opportunities for you?
Our growth is being driven by our clients demanding a real estate partner who can bring something different beyond the status quo to the table. Our Account teams are being challenged to bring innovation to the table; that’s where my team and I come in. In my role, I get an opportunity to work with a variety accounts in all geographic regions and industries. I’m able to identify innovation and best practices that can be employed to exceed client expectations.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
My greatest achievement here and in my personal life is when I prove skeptics wrong. Many times when I begin working with an account, there are a lot of people that don’t believe that we can make a change on both the C&W and client team. I am able to use analytics and past experience to very quickly identify opportunities. I am also very patient and an optimist. I often ask that I am given an opportunity to show that we can make a difference; I then go to work. It is so rewarding to see the client and our team come full circle and become a believer.

With the world constantly changing, how has your job, or client’s job changed over the past 10 years?
I think with the war on talent, all of us have had to change how we look at our space. What is the space being used for? How do we make it better for the employee? The experience has become as important as the culture, salary and time off benefits.
With the breadth of services we have now, how are you able to do more today for your clients?
We truly can provide an end-to-end solution and everything in between. With the strong platform and the talent, we can continue to offer services that will positively impact the customer’s employee experience, which in turn will make them more productive and the customer more profitable.

Adam McCostlin

With the world constantly changing, how has your job, or client’s job changed over the past 10 years?
Required access to data is by far and away the biggest change I’ve seen, along with the way companies occupy and plan their office space. The Great Recession was an inflection point for this country relative to how companies occupy, plan and execute their real estate decision making and strategy. Since the Great Recession, companies have reduced foot prints, increased access to technology for their employees (to enable working from anywhere), incorporated collaborative team environments in their offices and all of this is driven by cost cutting initiatives, technology advances and data analysis.

Companies have gotten smarter relative to how they occupy space and there is less emphasis on the individual and more emphasis on the collective whole. You’ve seen this play out across all industry types. Because of this, I have adapted the way I execute the consultation component of my job with my clients from a planning perspective leading into a project. However, we do this without abandoning the fundamentals of real estate negotiations in the execution. It’s been fun.

Tell us a little about your story. How did you come to C&W? What do you do?
Since I was a little kid, I’ve always been obsessed with skylines and maps. I’m not sure why. That drove my passion for real estate while I was a student at Marquette University, which had a newly founded real estate major during my tenure. My career started at Equis, which has evolved to today’s Cushman & Wakefield after many acquisitions and mergers. I’ve had many different brands on my business card, but I’ve worked for the same organization my entire career. Adaptation to change has become second nature, which enables me to relate to my clients as changes are constantly occurring in business.
With the breadth of services we have now, how are you able to do more today for your clients?
Clients require us to be partners and advisors in respect to industry changes and occupancy trends, both now and into the future. The ability for C&W to support those requirements is better than it has ever been, in many capacities. We have the data to support, the culture to make it fun, the expertise to deliver the best results, and the reach to do it anywhere in the world.
