Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
I love the people, the entrepreneurial spirit and the access to great talent and resources. All of theses set us apart from our competitors and enable us to deliver outstanding results for our clients.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
In the late 1980s, I represented the Ritz Tower residential cooperative on Park Ave and 57th St in Manhattan in a ground rent reset arbitration. Based on my performance in 1989, they asked me to create some value and raise over $20,000,000 to do some repairs. I re-negotiated the ground lease, bought out 2 retail tenants, created a commercial condo, and then sold the condo to the third retail tenant for $25,000,000. That deal won the Robert Lawrence Award from REBNY for the most ingenious deal of the year.

Tell us a little about your story. How did you come to C&W? What do you do?
After 10+ years on the client side of CRE, I started to look for more exciting ways to contribute. After some research, it was clear to me that C&W was in a growth mode; the company was investing in its tools, platforms, and people. It was an easy decision to come to C&W. I have met so many good people, and have enjoyed working here so much. I can’t imagine what I would be doing if I hadn’t joined C&W.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
Clients are listening to us and they are interested in our fresh approach that is more flexible, more focused on the end user, and more adaptable to their changing needs. We are emerging as the “Client-Focused Firm.”

C&W has one of the most interesting growth stories in our industry. How has our recent momentum made an impact on your role or created opportunities for you?
Our recent momentum has definitely shaken things up. Our merger was actually a fantastic opportunity as I know many of the people on both sides (having worked at Cassidy Turley for years). At both the national and local levels, the merger added team members along with a wealth of knowledge that has absolutely benefited both internal and external clients. We still have some growing pains, but we also have created the ability to continue building a world-class research team.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
Honestly, the fact that I was able to take a risk in moving to NYC from Atlanta when I didn’t have a job lined up. I managed to find myself, within just a couple of months, at a company with a lot of fantastic people. I’m also proud of taking another chance moving across the country to come back to C&W without thoroughly knowing this market, though I’m working with my team to learn as much as I can. C&W feels like home.

Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
For me, it is the people/culture and the opportunities to grow my career. I’m fortunate to truly enjoy the people I work with every day. We have a great culture in our office where we are challenged every day while being supported by peers and leadership. Over the past 11 years, I’ve been able to continue growing professionally; the growth of the company will only provide more of those opportunities.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
About a year ago, I became the President of Voices for Children’s Board of Directors. I had only been on the Board for about a year. I had also never ran a board prior to this, so I was certainly hesitant to accept the nomination. However, I’m so thankful I didn’t let fear get in my way, and that I took on the challenge. It has been an incredible learning experience, but most importantly, I get to be part of an organization who, through their volunteers, helps abused and neglected children.

Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
Cushman & Wakefield has been wonderful to me, and has provided me with incredible opportunities and experiences. C&W has a culture of rewarding those who want to grow their career. I was proactive, and started getting involved with initiatives, forming relationships in the firm and learning as much as I could. As a result, the company has rewarded me with advancement and recognition. All in all, C&W has a supportive culture that encourages folks to take a chance and step up to new opportunities.
C&W has one of the most interesting growth stories in our industry. How has our recent momentum made an impact on your role or created opportunities for you?
For me, the last 2 years at C&W have been nothing like the previous 15 years. It’s a wild rollercoaster every day; you’ve got to get in and buckle up. It’s been a fun and exciting ride for me each and every day. The explosive growth over the last few years has provided a lot of development opportunities for myself and many others here in Florida. I love it!

With the world constantly changing, how has your job, or client’s job changed over the past 10 years?
I actually began my career in commercial real estate 10 years ago, and since then, I would say that technology has been the biggest game changer in both our industry and in general business. The introduction of new platforms have allowed us to be more effective and efficient. In marketing, there has been an evolution in the way we engage with our clients and push out communications. In support of our staple collateral, we are able to mix it up with the use of property microsites, interactive reports and presentations, and social media.

Social media alone has had a strong impact on our industry. It has changed the way we communicate, gather and share information. We have been able to engage clients and build relationships through multiple channels—broadening our communication network.

C&W has one of the most interesting growth stories in our industry. How has our recent momentum made an impact on your role or created opportunities for you?
Since the re-brand to C&W, I would say that we have had nonstop opportunities for business development and collaboration nationwide. I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to get to know my counterparts in other markets. We have some great talent in marketing, and it has been a pleasure collaborating with my expanded team.
With the breadth of services we have now, how are you able to do more today for your clients?
I think the biggest expansion of services has been the cross-collaboration of markets. We have been able to leverage our expanded platform and national team to pitch and win some significant business in KC. It’s been a very exciting two years.

Tell us a little about your story. How did you come to C&W? What do you do?
I started my career at C&W when I was 16 in the mail room. 34 years later, C&W is the only firm I have ever been employed by and probably will be the only firm I am ever employed by. From the mail room, I became a “runner” for an industrial broker in Oakland, then a “runner” for an office leasing broker in San Francisco. When I was in college, I was a “runner” for an office leasing broker in downtown Los Angeles. In 1989, I joined the Capital Markets Group, and in 2016, I was appointed Executive Vice Chairman. From mailroom to EVC, anything is possible at C&W!
Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
The people! The people at C&W are the most entrepreneurial, dedicated and passionate individuals in the real estate services industry. Since C&W was acquired by TPG, the collaborative spirit and technological advancement in our system has only made our platform that much more compelling.  I have never been more excited about the direction of our firm and our executive leadership than I am today.
With the breadth of services we have now, how are you able to do more today for your clients?
There is no question that the increased connectivity of our numerous service lines is creating exciting opportunities for all of us to better service our clients. Investor Services is doing an excellent job in improving our interactions with major clients across various service lines so that we can present the C&W platform in a more unified fashion.

With the world constantly changing, how has your job, or client’s job changed over the past 10 years?
I would compare the changes in my job over the past 10 years to be very similar to the skyline of downtown Denver: the growth is unbelievable. There has been no ceiling within Cushman & Wakefield to expand my knowledge and achieve the goals I set. C&W continues to be on the cutting edge of change, and has provided me with tools to make my time more efficient and create new ways to help make us #1.
Why do YOU work here at Cushman & Wakefield and not somewhere else?
When I started at C&W, I thought I knew what I wanted to do. However, as I grew and learned more about Commercial Real Estate, it wasn’t long until I realized I loved brokerage. I loved solving problems, helping people out, and supporting the growth of others and  our firm. However, what keeps me at the firm are two important things: the people and C&W’s commitment to employees. C&W does not just hire anyone; they hire good people who have a vision. I think it is really hard to walk through any of our offices and find a group of “negative” people who do nothing but complain. The people I work with throughout C&W are great and have become lifelong friends.

C&W invests in us, the employees. We have great office space designed with all the workplace strategy ideas that we promote to our clients. The firm invests and encourages employees to live a healthy lifestyle. The leadership makes me feel important and valued.

What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
To work with one company for so many years makes me really proud. I love my job so much, and believe in all we have built and continue to build. I love bringing in new talent in hopes they will feel the same energy and passion I have for our business. Over the many years with the firm, I have learned the value of setting goals and making them happen.

One goal I set 3 years ago, I accomplished in 2016. I spent a year raising money and promoting the Ironman Foundation, and racing for individuals who could not take on the challenge. I was the top fundraiser for Ironman in the Americas for 2016, and was given an invite to race at the World Championships in Kona on October 14, 2017. I am still in shock that I will be out with the world’s best triathletes. For every mile I race, I am doing so to make a difference in someone’s life, someone less fortunate or unable to compete. Mostly though, I race to show everyone that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!

With the world constantly changing, how has your job, or client’s job changed over the past 10 years?
Having to manage a large volume of documents (contracts, leases, invoices, financial reports, etc.), one of the most impactful changes that has occurred on the Asset Service side is the use of cloud-based document storage and web-based accounting software. The use of cloud-based document storage allows instant access to virtually any documents from any location with an internet connection.

Pairing cloud storage with web-based accounting software allows for seamless integration between systems, speed up processing and approval times, while significantly reducing the need to file and store hard copy files. These two changes in technology allow for Owners, Asset Managers, Property Managers and Brokers to work more collaboratively, and have the necessary information on hand to make the best, and most informed, decision for their asset.

C&W has one of the most interesting growth stories in our industry. How has our recent momentum made an impact on your role or created opportunities for you?
I feel as though this question was written with me in mind. The past four years of my career development and the evolution of the new Cushman & Wakefield have run in parallel. Each merger and acquisition opened new opportunities and provided exposure to new experiences in its path. From starting my Cushman & Wakefield career with Cassidy Turley’s Washington, DC office; to moving to Boston, MA during the Cassidy Turley/DTZ merger; to integrating with the Legacy Cushman & Wakefield Asset Services team, following the DTZ/Cushman & Wakefield merger; to having the role I do now. All of these changes and advancements were direct results of the opportunities created from evolution of the new Cushman & Wakefield.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
While working at Cushman & Wakefield, there are quite a few achievements I am proud of being a part of, but the one that sticks out the most involves one of our non-profit clients in Washington, D.C. While partnering with the Debt and Equity team, our Property Management team was able to guide the client through a very complicated debt restructuring that addressed their short-term cash needs and consolidated their past debts into one simple and consistent loan payment going forward. Personally, I would have to say what I am most proud of are my kids. Although they are young, (5 & 3) watching them experience the world around them and seeing them draw so much happiness from seemingly small things, really puts life (and work) into perspective.

C&W has one of the most interesting growth stories in our industry. How has our recent momentum made an impact on your role or created opportunities for you?
Having been involved — in a roundabout way — with the growth story of C&W, it has been very interesting and has resulted in a much better platform for my capital markets focus. This has led to considerably more opportunities as I connect with members of C&W from around the country and world. As a member of the Board for 12 years as CTMT morphed into Cassidy Turley and then DTZ, it has been a great learning experience. It’s also been wonderful to be involved in something that has turned out to be such a great C&W organization.
What solution, achievement or moment are you most proud of while either working at Cushman & Wakefield, or in your personal life?
From a professional standpoint, I’m most proud of being a part of the Board that made the decision at CTMT to move on and start a new company (Cassidy Turley), with the intent that this would be the first step in an adventure that we did not know how it would end. Our goal was to be a part of an international company — and it came to fruition!
I’m also proud to have had the opportunity to work with and get to know so many people from all over the country. I remain friends with so many people from my entire career, long after I have left CTMT, CBRE and Cassidy Turley. They respect me for what I have accomplished in my chosen field, but more importantly, are my friends.

Personally, I’m very proud to have had the privilege to raise 6 kids, participate in most of their activities as they grew up, be happily married for 32 years, and dedicate time to continuously be successful in this industry.
